Questions on chapter 5&6

What things show that Lennie is mentally retarted? -They way he speaks
-His facial expression
-Him being so dependent on George

Is George's treatment of Lennie fair? I don't think it's fair but Lennie seems happy and i don't think he realizes anyway. George is being generous with him and i think he's trying his best, Lennie does cause a lot of trouble and I find it very loyal of George to stick with him.

Is George's treatment of Lennie understandable? I personnaly don't like kids at all, i have an aversion to them and Lennie's behaviour mirrors that of a six year old child, which is why i can understand George's treatment of Lennie's.

Could Goerge have helped him more? I think he is already trying his best and Lennie seems happy.

How does Candy treat Lennie? He treats him respectfully and just liek every other guy on the farm.

How does Curley's wife treat him? She plays around with him, knowing his disabilities and she enjoys the attention given to her by Lennie.

How does Crooks treat him? I think Crooks is unsure of what to think of Lennie but he is positively surprised that Lennie isn't racist against him like the other guys on teh ranch.

Why do they all talk to him? I guess out of respect and maybe the feel a little sorry for him.

Why does Lennie kil the puppy and later the girl? He didnt mean to kill the puppy but he is completely unaware of his strength and power which is why he broke the puppy's neck. His murder of Curley's wife was also an accident, he only tried to stop her from screaming.

Do you think Lennie had to be shot? What would have happened to Lennie if George hadn't shot him? I would have shot Lennie a long time ago. Lennie would have probably been shot by Curley anyway if they caught him or he would have been tied up in a cage.

How is the killing of Lennie similar to the killing of Candy's dog? Why do you think George killed Lennie himself instead of letting the men do it? The killings are similar because both are decisions that weren't easy and two men had to let go of a person and a dog that they have spent a long time with. The victims are also in similar situations, quite useless and bother people too much.
